Care

Ring care

Every ORBAVIE piece is held by a ring in gold-tone plating over zinc alloy. Plating is a thin layer: it keeps its shine longest when salt, chlorine, sunscreen and heat do not sit on it. A few habits make a real difference.

After every swim

  • Rinse the piece — fabric and ring — in cool fresh water as soon as you can. Pool chlorine and sea salt both dull plating and age swim fabric if they dry on.
  • Press the water out gently in a towel. Do not wring or twist: it stretches the fabric where it loops through the ring.
  • Pat the ring dry with a soft cloth.
  • Dry flat in the shade, away from radiators, tumble dryers and direct midday sun.

Washing

  • Hand wash cold with a small amount of mild soap. No bleach, no fabric softener.
  • Do not machine wash, tumble dry, iron or dry clean.
  • Wash darker colours (Noir, Cocoa, Lagoon) separately for the first few washes.

Protecting the ring

  • Put on sunscreen, tanning oil and perfume before you dress, and let them dry. Oils and alcohol are hard on plating.
  • Hot tubs and spa pools combine strong chemicals and heat. They are hard on any swimwear and any plated metal — swim there in a piece you do not mind wearing out.
  • Store pieces dry and flat, rings not pressed against each other. A soft pouch helps; our beach pouches close with the same ring.
  • Do not use metal polish or abrasive cloths on the ring; they remove the plating.

What wear looks like

With regular swimming, plating slowly softens in tone where the ring rubs against fabric. That is normal wear, not a fault. If a ring bends, cracks, comes loose or the plating flakes within a short time of normal use, please contact us — that is a fault and is covered under our returns policy and your consumer rights.

Safety

Rings and ties are small parts. Our pieces are not intended for children. Check rings and stitching before you wear a piece, and stop wearing it if a ring is damaged or loose.
